TEHRAN – An exhibition themed on “Unfinished Stories, Succession, Forgery and Smuggling,” focusing on displays of confiscated smuggled items, launched on Monday at the Reza Abbasi Museum in Tehran.
According to Isna, there are over 120 objects on display related to the ERA from the second millennium BC to the mid-Islamic period. Some of them were fake and were created for the purpose of profit and deception.
The exhibition aims to raise public awareness of the methods and tricks of cultural heritage counterfeiters and smugglers.
The artifact was identified and confiscated by the Tehran Cultural Heritage Protection Unit and in recent years have been confiscated in cooperation with law enforcement.
The statue of the sitting woman who made the headline when it was discovered and seized by police last year is one of the works on display in the collection. Cultural heritage experts had confirmed that the statue was fake.
Items like Bronze Lightton can be found in collections that have been mimicked and simulated from historical times.
Additionally, reports on the operation of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit and laws relating to the excavation, smuggling, purchasing, selling and export of historical objects, as well as punishments for the destruction of historical property.
The exhibition will be held for a week.
