Anonymous sources confirmed to Xinhua that the prisoners released as part of the prisoner/hostage exchange agreement entered Egypt from the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing.
The Palestinian deportees were taken to Nasser Hospital in Cairo upon arrival, the official said, adding that preparations are currently underway to facilitate their subsequent travel and repatriation to several agreed destinations, including Qatar, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Malaysia.
A recently agreed ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas provides for the return to Israel of the last 20 surviving hostages from Gaza and the release of approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
Earlier in the day, Hamas announced that it had handed over all 20 remaining living hostages captured in the October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel.
