“21 people were killed and six people were injured,” said the state’s director of disaster management, Mohammad Israel Sayar, in the western part of West Farah.
He said the victim was a member of two families who went to the picnic.
In southern Kandahar, the local disaster management department said in a statement that eight people, including women and children, were killed in several places due to heavy rain.
“Today, four women who were busy washing their clothes were wiped out by the flood, and only one woman survived,” the statement said. It added that the child was drowned in Kandahar, the roof fell on his family, killing one woman and three children.
Among the poorest countries in the world after decades of war, Afghanistan is particularly exposed to the effects of climate change.
