The shooter has not been identified. Houston police officials told reporters that the man’s description and the car, a silver Ford Escape, were linked to the murder, NBC News reported.
The victim has also not been identified.
The first shooting occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in Sugar Land, a city southwest of downtown Houston, authorities said.
Officers found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a white SUV that had veered off the road, the release said. Police said the shooting was initially believed to have been motivated by a street assault, but investigators determined the gunman was in a relationship with the victim.
According to the announcement, the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The statement did not provide further details about a possible motive and said investigators continue to work to uncover any potential connections to the Houston shootings.
About 30 minutes later, a gunman fatally shot a mechanic during an argument at an auto shop nine miles southwest of downtown Houston, Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson said at a news conference.
“All we know is that the man involved in the shooting in Sugar Land drove to this location and went to the repair shop,” he said.
Once the gunman left, someone in a nearby warehouse began recording, Crowson said. The gunman opened fire, killing the witness.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired nearby and found a man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside an SUV, Crowson said.
He said the motive for the second shooting was unknown.
