The warrant was for trespassing with firearms around, Pittsylvania County Sheriff Michael W. Taylor said. They had also issued protective orders, he said, the AP reported.
There was an hour-long standoff, but it ended peacefully, and with a suspected custody shooter, Taylor later told reporters.
“All three are going well. Of course, they’re rocking, and they’re going through a process of trying to heal now,” Taylor said.
All the officers appeared to have been injured by the rap shotgun, and no one was hit directly, Taylor said.
The sheriff asked Virginia State Police to investigate the shooting. Sergeant. Virginia State Police spokesman Rick Garlett said the agents are likely to be on the scene all night long, gathering evidence.
“I’m very pleased that there were no further injuries tonight, and this could have been much worse than that,” Garlett said. “I’m glad he gave up on himself and came out.”
Photos and videos of the scene showed numerous parking police and emergency response vehicles.
