The latest edition of Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) will begin on Wednesday (May 7, 2025) with Iranian Chairman Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
Ebrahim Heidari, spokesman for the 36th TIBF, announced that after Mottos’s appeal was published on February 4, 2025, the Policy Council has chosen “Read Iran” from the submissions of around 1,500 experts reviewed.
TIBF, held in Tehran every May, has become a prominent book fair in the Middle East and Asia since winning 16,000 titles in 1988.
TIBF attracts millions of visitors each year, including students, academics and families, and is Iran’s most important cultural event.
Founded in 1992 and commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Leadership, the Iranian Books and Literature House, a non-governmental institute, has organized the TIBF for the past 30 years, in addition to the state’s book fairs and cultural festivals. Its main goal is to promote reading in Iran.
TIBF promotes the sales of books in person and serves as a platform for publishers, writers, translators and agents to networks and collaboration.
Every year guests from honorary countries are featured to promote cross-cultural understanding. The 36th edition of TIBF welcomes Iraq as a guest of honor.
Ebrahim Heidali, a spokesman for the 36th Tehran International Book Fair, spokesman, made a statement at a press conference at a famous event on Monday, just two days before the TIBF began.
The exhibition features 2,363 Iranian publishers, of which 1,626 have participated in the exhibition in person. The publisher presents its latest books at 75,000 square meters.
Masoud Moinipour, director of Iran’s library, museum museum and documentation centre, announced that “This year we will be participating in the book fair with over 130 titles in Majlis Library publications.”
“Around 10 of these titles have been released in the last three or four months, some of which were released last week,” he added.
Complementing a book exhibition, The Fair offers seminars, workshops, book launches, and author meetings to promote intellectual exchange.
TIBF plays an important role in promoting literacy and love for reading, contributing to the intellectual and cultural development of the region by making books accessible and fostering a vibrant literary culture.
