Tehran – A total of 55 hotels and Quiche Free Zone hotels from 15 provinces compete in the first round of awarding green labels to hotels in Iran.
He told MEHR News Agency that the first round of awarding green labels to hotels in Iran was developed by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Association of Hotel Management in Iran, which aims to improve sustainability indicators of tourism supply chains, and that the first round has reached a decision stage in cooperation with the environment and group group.
Jahanshahi said: “Nearly 60 hotels from 15 states and Kish Island have been registered and competed for this event. The Green Hotel Award is also awarded based on the hotel’s performance and programme, based on four indicators that optimize social interactions focusing on water consumption, energy (electricity and gas), waste management, and local communities.”
He said that Mazandaran, Khorasan Razavi, Tehran and Fars Provinc were the most involved in the first round of this competition, and from the group’s perspective, three hotel groups were seriously involved in this round.
Jahanshahi continued that the labels for green hotels from various countries are one of the achievements of global tourism over the past 20 years. This is considered the social responsibility of this industry as a factor related to economic issues, in relation to the environment and community.
“The event will have a wide range of hotels across the country, from hotels with local and traditional structures to eco-hotels and modern and innovative hotels, and in addition to implementing the process for this event, there will be Iran’s Green Management Association and many academic figures and tourism experts from around the country.”
Previously, Jahanshahi said: “Our goal is to strengthen the country’s green tourism flow, and we are looking to expand our sustainable approach to businesses and national tourism destinations.”
He continues, “Our efforts focus on optimizing resources, increasing productivity in the tourism supply chain, and promoting and engaging with human and natural communities across the industry.”
He states: “This event, which is being held for the first time at this level and scale, targets the global tourism industry and our country’s resource consumption and carbon emissions, one of the key sources of hotels.”
Officials said the event was held as part of a special programme to commemorate World Tourism Day and is a continuation of efforts made in recent years to improve the country’s tourism sustainability indicators.
Jahanshahi has called on activists in the country’s hotel industry to take part in this event, placing great value on resource consumption and efforts made in this regard, as well as strengthening the social responsibility of the domestic tourism industry.
