Around 60 Labour lawmakers have promptly recognised the British government as a sovereign state and asked them to warn Israel’s latest actions in Gaza that ethnic cleansing, Al Mayaden reported.
In a public letter to Foreign Secretary David Lamy on Saturday, lawmakers formulated plans announced as “Israel” and cited plans to force all Palestinians in Gaza to refuge camps in Rafa. They described the move as a “drafting crime against humanity,” and clearly labelled it as part of Gaza’s ethnic cleansing.
The signatories urged Britain to step away from a cautious approach and take urgent action to not only stop forced transfers, but to recognize the Palestinian state as a necessary step towards viable peace.
The intervention follows the supply of international pressure, including a recent call by French President Emmanuel Macron to collectively recognize Palestine. Lawmakers warned that ongoing omissions would signal the wrong signal and undermine the UK’s longstanding support for the two states’ solutions.
