Tehran-The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2025 has placed 85 Iranian universities among Asia’s top institutions compared to 75 universities in 2024.
The Times World University Rankings for Higher Education 2025 brings research-intensive universities to court with all their core missions, education, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The methodology behind Asian University rankings is based on the same framework as the global table, but the weights have been readjusted to reflect the priorities of Asian institutions.
Sharif University of Technology is the first in the country, with a global ranking of 69.

Performance indicators are grouped into five areas. Education, 24.5% (learning environment). Research environment, 28% (quantity, income, reputation); Research quality, 30% (impact of citation, research strengths, research excellence, research impact); International outlook, 7.5% (staff, students, research); Industry, 10% (income and patents).
The 2025 ranking includes 853 universities from 35 territories. China leads the rankings, staying first and second, and holding five of the top 10. Four countries are ranked for the first time, including Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Mongolia and Syria.

The 15th edition of the 2025 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings includes 17 Iranian universities in 21 subject entries compared to 17 Iranian universities in 2024.
Iranian universities are ranked among the top institutions in three faculty disciplines, including engineering and technology. Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences, Mehr News Agency reported.
In the subject area of engineering and technology, Tehran University, with its global rankings of 280, is the first in the country to be located. In petroleum engineering, Tehran University ranks 22nd in the world, moving from 32 in 2024 to 22 this year. In Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Sharif University of Technology and Tehran University ranks 151-200 and 201-250, respectively.
In a wide range of subjects in life science and medicine, Tehran Medical University is the first in the nation to rank. That ranking rose to 309 from 358 this year in 2024. In agriculture and forestry, the University of Tehran ranks 101-150, while the University of Tabriz ranks 251-300.
In Anatomy and Physiology, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medicine are ranked 51-100 and 101-170, respectively.
Nursing jointly ranks Iranian University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medicine Ranks 151-225. In Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Tehran Medical University ranks 201-250.
In chemistry, the University of Tehran ranks 301-350 and 351-400 at Sharif University of Technology. In mathematics, Sharif University of Technology and Tehran University ranks 301-350. Material Science, Sharif University of Technology, Tehran University ranks 251-300.
Times Higher Education (The) World University Rankings (WUR) ranks 85 Iranian universities among the world’s top universities, according to International Outlook 2025. Sharif Institute of Technology (global rankings of 301-350) is the top university in the country.
World University Rankings 2025 placed 81 Iranian universities among the top universities in the world in 10 of 11 subject regions compared to 73 universities in 2024.
The best rankings in Iran are computer science and engineering.
Sharif University of Technology (151-175), University of Tehran (201-250), and Amilkavir University of Technology (251-300) each ranks 1st to 3rd place in computer science, respectively.
