Criticism of the families of Iranian victims of terrorism over European state support for terrorist groups
In his statement at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, representatives of the Association for defending terrorist victims, opposed the support of terrorist groups by the Western states and requested a report from Ben Saul, the Special Rapporteur of Terrorism.
Read in the statement:
Our recommendations for the international community and mandate holders:
1. The need for the United Nations to identify and prevent the activities of front organizations affiliated with terrorist groups used by terrorist groups under the false pretext of “NGOs.”
2. The Special Rapporteur must mandate states that support and host terrorists to observe human rights frameworks and to strengthen international cooperation to combat terrorism.
3. The need to create opportunities and conditions for terrorist victims to play a role in the UN decision-making and actions against terrorism.
4. The need to appoint a special rapporteur on the human rights of terrorist victims, or to include issues in the rapporteur’s mission on terrorism.
5. The Special Rapporteur is requested to visit Iran and submit an independent comprehensive report on the impact of terrorism on Iran’s human rights. This includes accurate statistics, reliable documentation, and practical recommendations to assist victims and survivors.
The 58th regular session of the Human Rights Council will be held in Geneva from February 24th to April 4th, 2025.
