According to today’s Russian report, he made comments following a rare three-day trip to Washington.
“Various countries are trying to derail this dialogue and drive the recovery of Russian-American relations,” Dmitriev told reporters Thursday evening.
He said negotiations were accompanied by “many rumors, misquoting and misinterpretation.”
“Many people are interested in preventing the development of our relationships. We are looking at media coordinated campaigns, and various politicians attempt to undermine relations between Russia and the US, and try to distort Russian statements,” the diplomat said. “It happens every day.”
“The best way to overcome disinformation is through direct dialogue,” he emphasized.
Dmitriev reportedly met with Steve Witkov, a Middle Eastern envoy of Trump, one of Ukraine’s key negotiators. According to NBC News, Russian diplomats also met Republican senators Lindsey Graham and Mark Wayne Marin.
According to Dmitriev, the side primarily discussed steps to gradually revise cooperation that was cut off by the Biden administration in 2022. The agenda included Arctic partnerships, the development of rare earth minerals, and the resumption of direct flights between the countries.
Some EU and Ukrainian politicians have tried to discourage Trump from resuming negotiations with Moscow. Kahakaras, the top EU diplomat, claimed last month that “Russia is really unreliable.” Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky suggested in February that Trump was trapped in a “disinformation bubble.”
Trump blamed Zelensky for the conflict, but his Ukrainian envoy Keith Kellogg argued that the EU should be on the sidelines during negotiations.
