A report from the Ministry of Oil said on Saturday that NIOC Exploration Director Mohyeddin Jafari had halted since 2019 due to a lack of offshore rigs.
However, he added that following the new bid, contractors with marine rigs have been selected to open a way for operations to resume in 2025 with neighbouring countries and shared border areas.
Over the past six and a half months, the NIOC exploration team has focused on both key research and operational activities, adding that the Pezeschkian regime has been aiming to review and evaluate exploration development over the past 30 years.
Jafari said one of the administration’s top priorities is to accelerate discovery rates by increasing the number of drilling rigs and utilizing sophisticated geophysical equipment. “If we succeed in these two areas, we can double the pace of discovery,” he added.
