Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi will begin indirect talks with the White House Middle East Special Mission Steve Witkov in Oman on Saturday, Iran’s semi-official media outlet Tasnim News reported earlier today.
Araguchi told reporters for Tasnim that he would have indirect consultations with Witkov, the outlet told its telegram channel.
According to Tasnim, Oman will mediate the talks despite yesterday saying that direct talks between the US and Iran have already begun.
The two parties will discuss Iran’s denuclearization, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
“It’s as much an opportunity as the test. The ball is on the American court,” Araguchi told X yesterday.
Background: Tehran and Washington have not engaged in direct formal consultations since the Obama administration negotiated an Iranian nuclear deal in 2015.
Iran resumed its nuclear program in 2018 after Trump scrapped the deal.
