Juan Manuel Mendes, director of the emergency business center, said at least 160 people are searching for potential survivors of tile rubs in search of tile rubs.
“We’ll clean up the pieces and keep searching for people,” he said Tuesday night. “We ask people to work tirelessly.”
Almost 12 hours after the nightclub’s top collapsed during a Meringue concert, rescuers were still pulling survivors from under the wreckage. Firefighters removed the broken concrete blocks and used picture book fragments as boards to lift heavy pieces as the noise from the drills breaking through the concrete filled the air.
Mendes said rescuers prioritized three areas of the club, adding that they “hear some sounds.”
Nelsicruz, the governor of Northwest Monte Christi and sister to the seven-inning Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Nelson Cruz, was among the victims.
She had called President Lewis Abinader at 12:49am, but she said she was locked up and the roof had collapsed, First Lady Raquel Abrae told reporters. Officials said she later died in the hospital.
“This is just too much of a tragedy,” said the First Lady, her voice broken.
