TEHRAN – In the speech of the ground forces commander of the 20th Artesh, Brigadier General Kiumers Heidari outlined an ambitious plan to expand the network of Iranian drone bases, highlighting its important role in countering the “cross-border threat” and securing the country’s frontier.
The event, held at the Army Ground Forces Headquarters on Wednesday, brought together senior military leaders to review defence strategies and advances in Iran’s domestically developed drone technology.
“The drones are one of the most unique and impactful weapons in the potential battle of the future,” said General Heidari, who emphasized Iran’s progress in domestic UAV production.
“The Army Ground Forces have successfully developed a variety of drone systems and microaircraft, and are now essential to the military structure under the Ministry of Defense.”
The commander also noted that “large drone bases” have been established and upgraded nationwide, particularly along the border areas.
With cutting-edge technology, these facilities support drones that can “precisely neutralize the threat to Iran’s sovereignty.”
The commander linked the expansion to the ongoing Eastern Border Closure Project. This is a high priority initiative to secure Iran’s eastern boundary.
To date, a 70-kilometer smart border system has been completed, a network of sensors, surveillance drones and automated response units.
Haidari described the project as “proof of the Army’s engineering ability,” combining it with “advanced technology, security response and sustainable stability.”
He added that 10 specialist brigades are currently being deployed to accelerate their completion.
Iran’s drone programme is seen as the basis for asymmetric defense strategies and reflects years of innovation amidst the enduring challenges.
Developed through extensive Indigenous research and development, these systems enhance national security through accuracy, real-time intelligence and sophisticated network-centric operations.
The Army’s ground forces will guide platforms such as the Mojar 6 and Aberville 3, which integrate AI-driven navigation and extended range capabilities.
The famous long range accuracy and herd intelligence, The Arash? 2, Gaza, Shahed? 136, Ababil? 5, and advanced models such as Karrar attracted international customers and strategic partners.
