Tesla has suspended online ordering in China for two electric vehicle (EV) models, primarily produced in the US, according to a CNN check on its website on Friday.
The Model S, 4-door sedans, and Model X (medium-sized crossover SUVs) are no longer available to order. Model 3 and Model Y generated at Tesla’s Giga Factory in Shanghai are unaffected. CNN contacted Tesla for comment.
The suspension comes the day after Beijing imposed its own retaliatory tariff of 84% on US imports on Thursday, further expanding the trade war with President Donald Trump. Tesla is a major car brand in China, the world’s largest automotive market, but the Model S and Model X are domestic niche vehicles and do not boast huge sales.
On Thursday, Trump revealed that a 145% tariff would be charged on all Chinese products arriving on US coasts.
