US Special Envoy Steve Eitkov said Tuesday that Iran “must stop and eliminate” its nuclear enrichment program to reach a deal with Washington.
This statement contradicted previous US stances at low levels regarding uranium enrichment in Iran to generate energy.
Baghaei explained in a critical way that the US movement is moving the goal post. He said it “constitutes professional fouls and unfair behavior in football.”
“In diplomacy, such changes (pushed by Hawks who can’t grasp the logic/art of co-contract production) can cause the overture to fall apart. It could be perceived as a lack of seriousness. We are still in test mode…”
He said, “American hardliners do not understand the art of dealing favorably for both sides and impose unfair will on the US government and US negotiators.”
The US State Department reflected Witkov’s latest statement on Iran’s negotiations later on Tuesday, explaining that the US is trying to “eliminate” Iran’s uranium enrichment.
Washington’s unstable attitude towards dealing with Iran shows that solid opposition from certain interest groups and lobbying activities within the United States will trade fair with Iran.
Furthermore, hardliness and anti-Iranian lobbies from the US and later became quite lengthy to derail negotiations using fear, misinformation, character assassinations and psychological tactics.
Following a familiar language change by the US, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi said enrichment of uranium as part of the country’s peaceful nuclear program was “unnegotiable.”
The Tehran-Washington consultations will not result if they are detained under pressure and do not result in a lack of mutual respect, Araguchi said.
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Revolution, said on Tuesday that indirect talks between Iran and the US in Muscat’s Oman capital “was well carried out in the first step”, but added that the Islamic Republic is “very skeptical” on the other side.
The second round of discussions is scheduled to take place in Muscat on April 19th.
