During a meeting in Tehran on Thursday with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman al-Saud, President Pezeshkian pointed to the deep religious, cultural and historical commonalities of Islamic countries and emphasized the need to strengthen Islamic unity.
The president described cohesion between Islamic countries as a prerequisite for peace, security and sustainable economic development in the region, saying conflict and poverty in Islamic countries is not appropriate for Islamic Umma.
He said the directors of Islamic countries can present inspiring examples of coexistence, welfare and progress in other societies.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to expand relations with Saudi Arabia in all arenas,” Pezeshkian said.
The president welcomed the formation of joint working groups in political, economic and security issues, saying Iran and Saudi Arabia could rely on a common ability to resolve local issues without foreign intervention.
President Pezeschkian expressed his hope that friendship between the two countries would integrate the interests of the Islamic world, interfering with the discord of Muslim countries and discouraging enemies who sowed them.
He has expressed his readiness to host Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman al-Saud in Tehran.
Meanwhile, the president pointed to the Palestinian lights of the Gaza Strip, saying that if the Islamic State achieves true unity, the Zionist regime cannot create such a humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged areas.
On his side, the Saudi Arabian minister conveyed the warm greetings of the Saudi King and Crown Prince to the Iranian president, describing meetings with Iranian officials as positive and constructive.
