“If we can’t end the war in Ukraine, we need to move on,” he told reporters before leaving Paris. “We need to make a quick decision right now. Whether this is viable or not, I’m talking about a few days.”
The comments come the day after he and special envoy Steve Witkov met with European and Ukrainian allies to end the Russian war in Ukraine.
According to a read from the State Department, the comprehensive overview does not provide a detailed overview, and the US certification summary of the peace programme received a “encouragement reception” in consultation. Rubio also spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and gave the same overview, reads said.
Speaking on Friday, Rubio said he and Witkov came to Paris and “started talking about a more specific overview of what is necessary to end the war.”
“If that’s not possible, then if we were far enough apart that this wouldn’t happen, I think the president would probably say he’s finished,” he said.
“It’s not our war. We didn’t start it. The US has helped Ukraine for the past three years and we want to end it, but it’s not our war,” he added.
“The President (Trump) has spent 87 days at this highest level of government and has repeatedly worked to end this war. This is why we are engaged with both sides when we need to decide and decide whether this is possible or not.”
Meanwhile, Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine overnight, crashing into a residential area in Kharkiv city. The strike killed one person and injured 67 people, authorities said Friday, adding that they feared more people would be trapped under the tiled bleed of damaged apartments.
