The Iranian and American delegations held their first round in Oman on April 12, with Oman’s foreign minister acting as mediator.
Saturday’s exchange between Tehran and Washington was indirect and mediated by Oman, as Oman had requested, not face to face, but rather wanted, as Trump had requested. Each delegation had a separate room and exchanged messages through the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut said his delegation had a brief encounter with Witkov’s US counterparts after they had finished consultations.
Araghchi said the consultation took place in a “productive, calm and positive atmosphere.”
“Both sides agreed to continue discussions…perhaps next Saturday,” Araguchi added. “Iran and the US want a deal in the short term. We don’t want to meet for the meeting.”
Commenting on the negotiations, US officials confirmed that the talks were constructive, and US President Donald Trump said talks with Iran would be fine.
