Macron did not mention the United States. The United States has rejected hundreds of scientists in the cuts in research that arise amid a wider conflict between Trump and Ivy League universities, France24 reported.
“Here in France, research is a priority, an innovative culture, and science is an endless horizon. Researchers from all over the world, choose France, choose Europe!” Macron said in a post in X.
Trump administration officials point to a wave of pro-Palestinian protests on campus last year as the rationale for the university’s demands. However, critics from faculty and student groups say the measure is designed to cool speeches, and campuses should be a place for freedom of expression and academic thinking.
On Friday, France announced the France for Science for Science platform run by the National Research Agency of France (ANR). This will allow universities, schools and research institutions to apply for joint assets from the government to host researchers.
