The US issued new sanctions on Tuesday targeting Iran’s large-scale liquefied petroleum gas Asadola Emmayome and his corporate network, according to Reuters. The new development came amid continuing consultations with Tehran on the nuclear program.
Emamjomeh’s network is responsible for shipping hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Iranian LPG and crude oil to foreign markets, the Treasury Ministry said in a statement.
“Today’s actions are being carried out in accordance with the administration’s maximum pressure campaign,” according to a statement from the US Treasury Department.
On the past two Saturdays, there were two rounds of nuclear and sanctions burning between Oman, first between Iran and the next Saturday. After the consultation, both sides expressed their happiness with very positive and constructive consultation progress.
Expert-level consultations are scheduled to take place tomorrow in Muscat, Oman.
In his first term in May 2018, US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from a groundbreaking nuclear deal in 2015 known as the JCPOA, which imposed curbs on Iran’s nuclear program in return for sanctions relief.
Tehran stuck to the deal until Washington left, but began rolling back some of its commitments.
All Iran’s nuclear activities are under surveillance by the United Nations Nuclear Monitoring (IAEA). Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, such as generating energy and medicines, or for agricultural purposes.
