Iran’s Home Minister Escandar Momeni and his Tajik counterpart, colonel Rahimzoda Ramazon Hamuro, signed a memorandum (MOU) in Dushanbe on Tuesday. Signing the MOU will result in a continuation of the agreement reached between the two countries during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s January visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.
The document covers the realms of combating organized terrorism, human trafficking and public smuggling, adding that “the implementation of this cooperative document appears to witness greater security in both countries.”
Pointing to the general issues between Iran and Tajikistan, the Iranian Home Minister noted that issues such as terrorism, drugs, drug fights, organized crime known as regional and cross-border crime could be the basis for bilateral interactions.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Momeni mentioned the old cultural and historical relations between Iran and Tajikistan, adding, “In addition to the economic and security sectors, there is a very high level of cultural cooperation between the two countries.”
He noted that the development of cultural cooperation could bring together the two countries more closely in terms of culture and tourism.
