EU countries are considering the possibility of reducing American arms purchases and introducing severe economic restrictions on the United States as a response to US President Donald Trump’s actions, Politico cites European officials.
Measures under consideration include finding alternative suppliers for military equipment and ammunition, introducing high retaliatory tariffs, abolishing intellectual property protection measures for American companies and reducing reliance on American tech giants, the report said Wednesday.
Additionally, many countries were concerned about Washington’s use of defence technology as a lever for pressure on Ukraine, the report read. They also reportedly found it not that easy to meet our demands to increase defence spending.
As a result, countries have concluded that it is necessary to reduce their dependence on the US system and develop their own developments.
A Ukrainian Polish government adviser told the newspaper that “trust in America is being shaken up badly,” and Poland probably won’t issue a new major order on American military equipment.
