Operation Kursk refers to the invasion of Russia’s cross-border Ukrainian in August 2024 to disrupt Russian military operations, gain territory and divert resources from other aspects.
In a report to Putin, Gerasimov declared that the “defeat” of the Ukrainian forces at Kursk Oblast had been completed. He claimed that the Ukrainian Defence Forces lost around 76,000 soldiers during the Kursk operation.
Gerasimov acknowledged the contributions of the North Korean military, saying, “They were active in the liberation of Kursk, demonstrating professionalism and coordination.”
North Korea has become involved since November 2024, sending an estimated 10,000-12,000 troops to support Kursk’s Russian troops. They were united under Russian command and took part in direct battles with the Ukrainian army.
Putin responded to the report by claiming that the “adventure” of the Ukrainian army had failed.
The Russian army acquired the city of Suda at Kursk Farmers in March. The Ukrainian troops then retreated near the Russian-Ukraine border.
Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov has previously said that thousands of Ukrainian soldiers surrounded by Russian Kursk umblast are false.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelenki reported that Russian troops were gathering troops at the eastern border. A possible target was to attack Ukraine’s Smee Oblast, the president said.
