Operations at Shahid Rajae Port in the Persian Gulf, including loading and unloading container ships, had returned to normal earlier in the day, news outlets reported.
Iran’s Minister of Road Development Farzane Sadegu has also confirmed that the port near the coastal city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province is operating normally.
Authorities also denied reports that the closure of Shahid Rajaee port caused disruption in the supply of imported food to Iran.
Iran’s Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri said that the basic goods stored at the port have been moved to other facilities and also added a vessel that planned that the cargo of food and basic goods at the port have been re-routed to other ports in southern Iran.
The announcement came in a report suggesting that the massive explosion at Shahid Rajae Port on Saturday was caused by a chemical fire in one of the facility’s yards.
The report even cited an unclear official saying the incident could lead to food shortages in Iran.
The explosion killed 40 people and injured more than 1,000 people, but six have not been recorded, according to the latest figures released by the Governor Hormozgan’s office.
Shahid Rajaee Port is responsible for handling more than 70 million tonnes of cargo annually in Iran. It includes over 3 million 21 feet of comparable unit (TEU) containers, making it one of the largest container ports in the Persian Gulf.
