Speaking in an interview with a correspondent from Mehr news agency on the sidelines of the Islamic Republic of Iran, CEO of Russia’s Iran’s Trade Centre, the Iranian Trade Centre, on the sidelines of the 7th Export Subject Exhibition, he stressed that both Iran and Russia are likely to boost their bilateral trade.
Given the low levels of Iran’s trade and economic exchange with Russia in the past, the government has worked with Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPOI) to establish an Iranian trade centre in Russia and take effective measures in line with rules and regulations observations.
The main purpose of establishing trade centres in various countries is to expand and develop trade-economic relations, he said, adding, “As far as Iran-Russia trade relations are concerned, annual trade sales between the two countries have been less than $1 billion in the past few years.”
He said Iran’s product exports to Russia reached around $2.7 billion in 2023.
Mosayeebi said the sanctions imposed on the country did not lower the level of trade between the two countries, adding that the sanctions increased the opportunities for both countries to strengthen trade and economic activity.
Turning to the comprehensive 25-year strategic partnership agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation, he noted that the strategic partnership cooperation between the two countries will be run on May 15, 2025.
The high tariff rates imposed by Russia on imported products have caused several problems with Iran’s exports to the favorable Russian market, Mosai Ebi noted, highlighting that collection of Russia’s high tariff rates prevented Iran from competing with rivals, including China and Turkey, to collect 35% tariff rates on imported products.
He added that the implementation of the comprehensive Iran-Russia Strategic Partnership Treaty paves the way for a significant boost to trade with the Russian Federation, particularly in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market.
In general, he maintained that the implementation of a strategic partnership agreement between Iran and Russia would provide a great opportunity for both countries to significantly strengthen bilateral trade.
After a year of implementation of the comprehensive Iran-Russia strategic partnership agreement, Iran’s exports to the Russian Federation will increase to $10 billion,” the head of the Centre added.
