Despite announcements of a preliminary ceasefire in certain regions, conflicts continued to be strengthened across southern Syria this week, particularly in the Damascus countryside.
The battle erupted overnight at Kanaker Front on Thursday, with local sources confirming Al Mayadeen that violent gunfire and mortars had hit the village.
By dawn, local factions had repelled armed attacks by extremist groups, and despite intermittent shootings, they reportedly successfully stopped the attack.
The latest conflict follows days of fatal unrest in southern Damascus. On Tuesday, violence broke out between government-backed armed groups and local residents in Jharmana and Ashrafiet Sanaya, resulting in around 70 deaths. The dead included civilians, armed factions and members of Syrian general security forces.
The conflict was initially caused by a leak of audio clips containing insults directed at the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Druze’s religious leaders quickly denounced the content, but the anxiety persisted.
