Administration spokesman Fateme Mohajelani says Iran’s redline in indirect talks with the US is solid, and Tehran will only engage in negotiations on the nuclear issue.
During a weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohajelani said the Islamic Republic’s red line remains the same for the past 20 years and that Iran has never deviated from them. Iran argued that nuclear energy is essential for peaceful applications and that the Iranian state has the right to acquire it.
Iran has demonstrated its commitment to diplomatic relations through multiple consultations, she said, adding that the other side must adopt a stable position.
She has not objected to Iran’s continued negotiations and reaffirmed that Tehran is waiting for the foreign ministers of neighboring countries to schedule the next round, as Oman mediates these indirect consultations.
Regarding the US embargo on Iran, Mohajelani described unilateral sanctions as illegal, arbitrary and violated international law, classifying them as examples of economic terrorism and human rights abuses.
She further stated that a committee was established to address the administration’s response to the Shahid Rajaee Port incident, investigate the cause of the explosion, prevent similar accidents, and to support the rights of the affected individuals.
On the topic of energy imbalances and blackouts across the country, the spokesman apologised to Iranian people, highlighting the administration’s efforts to increase the generation capacity of both the heat and renewable energy sectors to address the issue.
