Alileza Yousefy, director of the Western Europe Department of Foreign Affairs, has rebutted recent allegations made against Iran by the UK’s Home Office and certain British Parliamentarians following the suspicious detention of several Iranian citizens.
Following the unfair detention of Iranian citizens, Parliament’s British police statements against Tehran constitute a blatant violation of basic legal and human rights standards, Yousefi said Wednesday.
He said, in line with the detention of several Iranian citizens against Iran, the charges against Iran will raise allegations of political motivation behind their arrests.
He noted that repeated, unproven claims by British officials undermined bilateral ties and strengthened Iran’s longstanding skepticism about Britain.
A warning of the negative consequences of the unfounded accusations against Iran, Youusefi urged the UK to immediately notify the UK of the legal basis for Iran’s detention and to facilitate consul visits without delay.
He also emphasized the importance of supporting the principle of justice in this issue.
