Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi met with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniyam Jaishankar today as he visited New Delhi for high-level consultations and attended the 20th session of Iran and India.
During the meeting, Aragut highlighted the deep civilization, historical and cultural ties between Iran and India, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations across various sectors.
Emphasizing the importance of economic and trade relations, Araguchi highlighted the need to advance the implementation of the 10-year Chabahar cooperation agreement, calling it an important priority for bilateral relations. He called for the use of the broad capabilities of both countries to enhance economic cooperation.
Expressing his satisfaction at the 20th Joint Committee session, he described it as a valuable opportunity to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Araguchi also emphasized the importance of peace and stability in South Asia for both Iran and the international community, expressing his hope that recent tensions in the region will be resolved through foresight and responsible actions by all involved parties.
The Indian Foreign Minister on his part welcomed the expansion of Iran-India relations in all areas of mutual interest and described the joint committee session as particularly important at this time. He reaffirmed India’s preparations to identify and activate diverse areas of cooperation.
The two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen economic, trade and transport ties, and agreed on the importance of multilateral diplomacy through regional and international platforms such as BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Agency. They also supported trilateral or quadrilateral cooperation with other regional countries in the regions of interest.
Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on the latest political and security development in South and West Asia, highlighting the need for joint efforts to alleviate tensions, protect peace and stability, and prevent further escalation of conflict.
