Iran’s Foreign Minister and his Swedish counterpart Maria Malmar Stenegaard spoke about bilateral and consular issues on the phone.
Araguchi condemned the recent arson attack on the Iranian embassy in Stockholm, urging the Swedish government to take serious action against the perpetrators of the incident and make the necessary arrangements to prevent such attacks from recurring.
He also highlighted the need for close consultations between Iran and Sweden to resolve misunderstandings and strengthen mutual cooperation.
On her part, Malmar Stinelgaard reaffirmed Swedish commitment to protecting diplomatic sites and ensured that Stockholm would take necessary steps to ensure the safety of Iranian embassies.
On April 30, the Iranian embassy in Stockholm was attacked by criminal arson. The assailant placed two gallons of flammable liquid (40 liters of gasoline) at the entrance to the embassy and burned the main door. According to a statement released by the Iranian embassy, the flames quickly spread across the property, causing serious damage to the embassy interior, including wall panels and electrical wiring.
Thanks to the prompt and brave response of embassy staff, the fire was contained before claiming life, particularly the security guards, which were in immediate danger. However, the attack caused considerable stress among personnel and caused significant material damage to the embassy infrastructure.
In January 2024, a group of assailants violently attacked the Stockholm embassy and physically assaulted members of their diplomatic staff. In both cases, the perpetrator shamelessly records his criminal conduct and clearly shows his plans and intentions to spread the footage through media outlets and social media platforms and intimidate him.
