Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) figures released in a report on Monday by Fars News showed that the Iranian steel factory produced 3,312 million metric tons (MT) of mild steel on April 20th that month.
Mild or semi-finished steel refers to three types of steel ingots known as billets, blooms and slabs. These are used to make long steel products that are usually needed for the construction of buildings, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
ISPA data showed that Iranian billet and bloom production rose 2.7% until late April, reaching 1.769 million mt.
Steel slab production also rose 7.6% to 1.343 billion mt over the same period, the figures show.
This is because Iran had reported a significant decline in steel ingot production from calendar year to late March. The ISPA figures released in mid-March brought mild steel production to 26,953 million MT in 11 months, down 6.7% from late February to late February.
Industry sources and government officials denounced energy supply restrictions due to a decline in steel production in Iran last year.
The latest ISPA figures showed that Iranian steel products production fell 2.1% year-on-year in late April to reach 1.812 billion mt.
The figures show that Iranian rebar (reinforcement) production increased 4.1% compared to April last year to 0.84 million MT, while IPE (I beam) production fell 41.6%, while angle steel and U-steel power increased 2.6% to 0.065 and 0.08 million MT.
Iran is one of the 10 largest steel producers in the world. The country has reported a steady increase in steel production and exports in recent years amid the war between Ukraine and Russia, which has affected regional and global supply.
