CNN reported Tuesday that US President Donald Trump intended to change the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf or the Arabian Gulf.
The CNN report added that Trump has revised his recent decision to not anger Iranians during bilateral talks on sanctions and the removal of Tehran’s nuclear issue.
A source familiar with the issue told CNN that Iranian officials have made clear they are firmly opposed to such a move.
CNN reported in his remarks in Saudi Arabia that Trump said Tuesday that a “disaster” was unfolding in the Persian Gulf.
The CNN report added that Arab countries have long pushed away the Persian Gulf, a waters off the southern coast of Iran, and have been renamed to reflect their country. But Trump’s comments appear to acknowledge that the move would anger Iranians. Iranians have long pushed water out of their southern costs to be called the Persian Gulf.
Trump has visited Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf Arab countries.
