Moscow has verified measures taking into account the interests of Russia and its citizens, spokeswoman Maria Zakharova of the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an explanation.
“Of course, as you know, one of these (sanctions) packages is not without a proper response from the Russian side. First and foremost, it takes into account our interests, the interests of our nation and its citizens.
Zakharova recalled his official recent statement from Paris, “a “desperate call for unconditional hostilities” in Ukraine and the threat of new sanctions against Moscow in the case of rejection.
“It has long been clear that all these anti-Russian packages adopted by the European Union have nothing to do with solving the situation in Ukraine. It seems even children understand this,” she said.
She said the measures taken by the EU “we have already reached the point of being absurd.”
“If we believed these measures would have some effect for the designated purposes, then if they (these measures) had any connection to the situation in Ukraine, we probably gave ourselves at least for a while to see if these measures would work.
