Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul, Umerov emphasized that the agreement was a significant result of the meeting, saying that the date of the exchange has been set but cannot be clarified at this stage, the Anadoru Agency reported.
“The meeting is over. We discussed ceasefire and prisoner interactions. We have now agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners for 1,000 prisoners. These are the results of our meeting,” he said.
Umerov further noted that the Ukrainian delegation received instructions from the president to focus on achieving a ceasefire and promoting prisoner exchange.
Both sides held their first peace negotiations in three years in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday.
Reuters reported that the Russian delegation after the talks in Türkiye was satisfied with the Ukrainian side.
Russia said on Friday that its first in-person meeting with Ukraine in more than three years would soon have been traded 1,000 prisoners and a contract to resume consultations after each side sets a vision for a future ceasefire.
In a brief statement made live on television in the Russian province after negotiations were over in Istanbul, Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation, said Moscow is pleased with the progress and is ready to continue talking to Kiev.
