“We used the word ‘difficult’ to describe negotiations with the US as it arises from the fact that the other side does not follow traditional diplomatic norms,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told his presser Monday morning.
“The imposition of sanctions while claiming to pursue Iran’s Islamic Republic and diplomatic paths is evidence of their severity and lack of goodwill,” Iran’s senior diplomat emphasized.
“This reality proves that American policymakers maintain hostile attitudes towards the Iranian people, and claims of dialogue and commitment to diplomacy should not be taken seriously.”
He reiterated that Iran chose the path of diplomacy because he firmly believes that there is no source of concern or hidden concern when it comes to nuclear issues.
Baghaei emphasized that the only negotiation process that exists is these indirect negotiations, led by Iranian foreign ministers and special representatives of the US president. “There is no other process other than these indirect negotiations.”
“The whole negotiation process is essentially about resolving challenges and conflicts, and despite hearing contradictory statements from Americans, we are still in the negotiations.”
“We didn’t receive any written proposals (from the US),” he continued, adding that Americans will change their offers by raising new issues. “This creates ambiguity and confusion. The positions raised at the negotiation table are in utter conflict with media coverage in some cases.”
“Another issue is about (nuclear) consortiums. We never raised this (problem). This idea has been around for 20 years and has been discussed by several political parties. It’s not bad to establish a fuel complex in the region so that all countries in the region can invest. That’s how it happens.”
