In a meeting with Secretary-General Zhang Ming, a bystander at the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025 on Sunday, President Pezeshkian said such mechanisms would effectively support the advancement of joint programmes between member states and provide an important platform for meaningful political, economic, cultural and scientific interactions.
Pezeshkian described SCO’s China’s rotational presidency as a valuable opportunity to make strategic decisions aimed at fulfilling the organization’s true purpose. He emphasized the importance of transforming current ritual structures into more operational and practical institutions.
Additionally, Pezeshkian saw the expansion of SCO membership as an important step in achieving its goals. He noted that this process not only strengthens the organization’s role, but also helps counter unilateral US policies.
At this meeting, Zhang Ming welcomed the SCO’s Iranian membership and described it as an important milestone that all member states have actively received. He emphasized that since Iran’s arrival, the Islamic Republic has provided valuable and constructive proposals.
The Secretary-General also emphasized that the main goal is to increase the organizational efficiency of all members. He made it clear that cooperation agreements and documents within the SCO require the design and implementation of operational programs. To achieve this, authorities are working to modernize the structure of the organization and establish regular and constructive interactions with Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
