International pressure on Israel has recently been promoted as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a new military attack in Gaza, according to Reuters.
Karas said the “strong majority” of EU foreign ministers in Brussels supported such a review of the bloc’s association agreement with Israel in light of the events of Gaza.
“The situation in Gaza is devastating. The aid granted by Israel is of course welcome, but that is a decline in the ocean. Aid must flow on a large scale without hindering it.
French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barott spoke in Parliament and said he welcomed the EU’s decision and that 17 of the 27 member states supported the move.
EU sanctions against violent Israeli settlers have been prepared, but so far they have been blocked by one member state, Karas says without naming the country.
