Officials said an unknown vehicle was running near a church in the 1200 block of West 78th around 2am Saturday, and fired fire at a massive crowd of residents inside.
Police said seven teenagers were shot and taken to an area hospital, and one teenager was seriously injured in the chest and leg, NBC News reported.
The shooting comes two weeks before the church begins its weekly walk of peace on Fridays with its anti-violence initiative.
After filming, Fr. Church priest and longtime Chicago social activist Michael Pfreger said parents must be aware of where their children are.
“This is not something police can stop, it can stop SNAP curfew, programming can stop, work can stop. This is a young man who has made the right choice, rather than putting everything you do on social media,” Pfleger told NBC Chicago.
Pfleger said it is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the shooter. No one is currently in custody.
