Eleven members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Committee issued a joint statement condemning the Israeli regime’s military attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, urging immediate action by the UN’s nuclear watchdog groups and the Security Council.
Members of the IAEA Governor’s Committee condemn Israel’s attacks on Iran, including military attacks on nuclear facilities under IAEA’s safeguards, calling them a serious violation of international law, the UN Charter and IAEA’s laws
The statement emphasized that these military attacks not only threaten international peace and security, but also undermine confidence in the treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), constitutes a blatant disregard for the IAEA safeguard system, and endanger peaceful nuclear energy advances.
The signatories also emphasized that armed attacks or threats on nuclear facilities specialising in peaceful purposes constitute a violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the principles of the IAEA law.
They called on the Israeli regime to immediately halt military attacks on Iran, urging the board, secretariat and the IAEA director to take necessary measures to prevent such attacks from occurring again.
This statement was issued by Russia, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Iran.
Starting on June 13, Israel launched a series of attacks targeting Iranian civilians, scientists, infrastructure, military commanders and nuclear facilities.
