Egypt has led groups of 21 countries by denounced Israel’s recent military attacks on Iran, calling for an immediate halt of hostilities and issued a joint statement urging a return to diplomacy that emits tensions in the region.
A statement launched by Egypt following consultations between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti and his counterparts expressed “categorical rejection and condemnation of Israel’s recent attacks on the Islamic Republic since June 13, 2025.”
The signatories of the statement are Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei Dalsalam, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Edjibochi, Gambia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Sudan, Sanger and Sama Emirates.
He also condemned actions that violate international law and the UN Charter, highlighting the need to respect the sovereignty of the nation and the principles of good neighbors.
The signatories emphasized “the imperative need to stop Israeli hostilities against Iran,” and “expressed great concerns about this dangerous escalation and threatened to have serious consequences for peace and stability throughout the region.”
The central demand of the statement was “the urgent need to establish a Middle Eastern zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.” The countries have also called on all countries in the Middle East to participate in the treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons (NPT).
The joint statement emphasizes “the most important importance of refraining from targeting nuclear facilities under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards,” explaining such conduct as a violation of international law and the 1949 Geneva Convention.
The nation seeking a “quick return to the path of negotiation” confirmed that diplomacy and dialogue “continued as the only viable path to solving regional crises” and asserted that military instruments cannot bring about permanent resolutions.
The statement also affirmed the importance of “protecting freedom of voyage in international waterways” and refraining from actions that undermine maritime safety.
