The 12-day war between Iran, the United States and Israel is considered a turning point in modern history in Iran and the region. The war not only demonstrated the strength and resilience of the Iranian state to the Zionist regime and the US aggression, but also demonstrated unprecedented unity among the people and support for the establishment of Islam.
To discuss the issue, Mehr correspondent contacted Abdel Bari Atwan, an Arab analyst based in the UK.
“Israel thought that by launching a surprising attack early on June 13, assassinating Iranian troops and security officials, it could create some kind of confusion and despair in Iran. However, such a plot was hampered by all Iranian military commanders. Miscalculations?
“Israel was shocked by Iran’s high level of preparation and Iran’s power in dealing with this attack. Israel has always been used to use policies that create shock and assassinations, but Iranians were able to quickly bring everything under control and respond at an unprecedented pace. Israel had hoped that Iranians would rebel against the government and the Islamic revolution,” replied an Arab analyst.
“While the Western countries and the Israeli regime had hope for the inner cleavage of Iran and the political turmoil of the country after the Israeli invasion, the Iranians maintained unity against the invaders. What do you think is the reason for this?” Atwan said, “It is impossible for a great Iranian nation to side with the invaders, the overseer, the Israelites. The Iranian state surprised America, Israel and Netanyahu, showing that it stands in the same trench as their leaders and revolution. Again, I put that difference aside and pay tribute to this great nation, who stood in the same trench as their government and leadership.
“As a well-known international expert, what is your assessment of the winners and losers of the war imposed against Iran?” he said, “There is no story of defeat. This is a big victory for Iran. Who stood up to America, the biggest superpower in history. Iran also stood up to the Zionist gangs supported by the West. Iran won, Israel was defeated. It changed, and Iran changed all the equations.”
Regarding the possibility of renewing Israeli attacks on Iran after a fragile ceasefire, a well-known Arab analyst said, “The problem is clear. Israel is defeated and Netanyahu is in dire circumstances. It is extraordinary, with Iranian missiles destroying a skyscraper in the heart of Tel Aviv.
“This is the reality. Netanyahu has just failed. The Israelites are responsible for him and tell him.
“Israel appears to have plans to attack other prominent countries in the Islamic world after Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Iran. What is your rating? Will Israel attack other countries in the region as well?” Atwan said, “In its immobility, Iran protected the entire Arab region. This resilience and defeat of Israel’s aggression and strong response to it, Iran has created immunity for many countries.
