The statement came on Wednesday in response to comments from EU foreign policy director Kaja Kallas. Kaja Kallas on Tuesday urged Iran to engage in immediate negotiations to curb nuclear activity.
In a post on X, Araguchi said Wednesday night that the crows ignored the principles enshrined in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
He argued that the EU’s call has undermined Iran’s sovereignty under international law and failed to acknowledge the complexities of existing nuclear agreements.
Araghchi further criticized the EU’s stance by referring to UN Security Council resolution 2231.
Araghchi refused to engage with the EU and the UK in future negotiations, saying their participation was irrelevant and meaningless.
He argued that the resolution and the JCPOA framework were undermined, particularly by the withdrawal of major political parties in 2018.
Iran is stepping up its claims of nuclear rights and reimposes severe sanctions as the US unilaterally withdraws from the JCPOA under the Trump administration. The Islamic Republic has since reduced its compliance with the transaction and has been working on its uranium enrichment activities, claiming that its program is a peaceful purpose, such as energy production and medical research.
The EU, together with France, Germany and the UK (collectively known as E3), is trying to save the JCPOA through diplomatic channels. However, Tehran has long complained about Europe’s inaction and overlap since the US unilateral withdrawal in 2018.
Araguchi, who has repeatedly held Tehran’s longstanding position, warned the European Union on Tuesday against a “disruptive approach” to Iran’s nuclear activity and support for Israeli invasions by several European countries.
He said such actions further complicate the issue and hinder diplomatic efforts.
In a telephone conversation with Karasu, Araguchi condemned what he described as the generosity shown by several parties towards the lawlessness and crimes of the Zionist regime.
He highlighted the responsibility of all governments to condemn Israel and the US military aggression against Iran.
