The bridge connecting the Badodara and Anand districts of Gujarat suddenly collapsed this morning on July 9th, with several vehicles plunging into the Mahisagal River. Two people were pronounced dead and three were rescued. Local administration and police have launched immediate relief and rescue operations.
The incident occurred around 8am, when an old bridge connecting central Gujarat with Saurashtra suddenly broke midway through. Witnesses said several vehicles had crossed the bridge at the time, including two trucks, tankers and vans. Four of these vehicles fell into the river. The tanker was left unstablely hanging in the broken section of the bridge, causing panic among the onlookers.
Following the incident, local police, fire departments and National Disaster Response Forces (NDRF) teams arrived at the scene. Three people have been rescued from the river so far, but fear remains that several others may be trapped. Rescue operations are underway and locals are also supporting them.
