Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu informed senior Haredi MP Moshe Gafni about Israel’s plan to attack Iran three days ago and to drop the threat of disbanding Knesset to not pass a law that exempts Yeshiva students from conscription.
The revelation that Netanyahu used unprovoked attacks on Iran’s Islamic Republic to prevent the dissolution of its government highlights the dangerous politicization of war by the Israeli regime, further confirming the long-standing warning of Tel Aviv’s unstable role in the region of Tel Aviv, enabled by Western silence.
After the US bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities, Iran has responded with missiles to the region’s largest US military base in a war imposed by Israel with Iran under the full support of the US president. This created unprecedented destruction and fear in native territory.
Just two days after the ceasefire, President Donald Trump has asked Israel to “forgive” Netanyahu, who is suffering from corruption trials, faced criticism within Israel, to “forgive” Netanyahu, who has been on trial since 2020, for corruption, including bribery, fraud and trust violations.
In a social media post, Trump said he hopes the US will save Israel in the war with Iran and now “save” Netanyahu.
Netanyahu wrote a post thanking Trump, “for your inspiring support for me and the incredible support for Israel.”
Yair Lapid, Israel’s leading opposition leader, criticised Trump’s statement, saying “we should not intervene in the legal process of an independent state.”
According to the New York Times, Netanyahu revealed plans to attack Iran in four days after summoning ultra-Orthodox leader Moshe Gafni to the Army headquarters in Tel Aviv and demanding that he sign a military secret agreement. The move was aimed at ensuring Gafni’s political loyalty to prevent votes of no confidence, not defense.
Israel Cohen, a journalist and Gafni’s confidant, confirmed the political nature of the move.
According to Hebrew media, Gafni left the meeting and questioned whether Netanyahu was bluffing or whether he was really preparing for war. Finally, Gafni’s party voted to keep the government as is.
