China’s success in poverty reduction can be largely attributed to the comprehensive adoption of international best practices and the localization and innovative applications of global poverty alleviation experiences. All of these have collectively made global progress in poverty reduction, the think tank report said Friday.
The report entitled “Efforts for a Better Living for People: Practical and Theoretical Innovations in China to Integrate and Expand the Achievement of Poverty Relief” was released by Xinhua Institute, the national high-level think tank of New Xinhua News Agency.
By the end of 2024, China had provided development support to over 160 countries and jointly advanced over 150 Belt and Road initiatives since its launch more than three years ago. The Global Development Initiative mobilized nearly US$2 billion in development funding, carried out over 1,100 projects, bringing concrete benefits to many countries.
China has applied the principles of “targeted” and “demand-driven” poverty alleviation to international poverty alleviation cooperation, launching many visible, concrete projects, with rapid results. “Each of these cooperations demonstrates that China is an active promoter and a continuous contributor to global poverty reduction,” the report said.
It should be noted that China is committed to providing systematic support for global poverty reduction by providing technology transfer, financial support, capacity building and platform development to help developing countries strengthen their own growth momentum.
The report, led by the vision of a global community that shares China’s international poverty reduction cooperation, emphasized the reconfiguration of a developing country as a “co-creator” rather than as a “passive follower” in the modernization trend.
“Poverty reduction is not a problem of reducing numbers, but rather a promotion to a new form of civilization,” the report said, adding that China’s experience sparked dialogue between civilizations about the essence of human progress, as a developing country that has raised the largest number of people from absolute poverty.
