At a press conference on Saturday, Jahangil assured the public that follow-up was being carried out “quickly, crucially and accurately” and that more information will be shared with the public in the near future.
“I will not confirm this claim,” Jahangir responded to questions about the claim that the recent attacks on Evin Prison were aimed at eliminating certain Israeli spies.
However, he stressed that the goal of the Israeli regime to attack Evin Prison is to once again show that it will ignore international norms.
“The Zionist regime’s purpose in the attacks was to show that international rules were unworthy,” he said, adding that the action coincided with previous records of punished human rights abuses.
He described the attack as a coronavirus attempt to instill fears about Islamic revolution, Islam and Iran and discourage public support.
“The strike has killed and injured the public, prison staff, judicial employees, prison families and local residents,” he said.
Jahangir further condemned the attack on Evin prison as “terrorist acts and crimes against humanity,” which violated all international norms.
He urged the international community, particularly those who frequently speak about human rights, to take concrete legal action against Israel about the crime.
He also confirmed that a few prisoners had fled during the attack.
“A few prisoners exploited the situation to escape, but their numbers aren’t that important,” he said.
“The fugitives were not among the fugitives, and the fugitives would certainly be arrested and returned to prison,” he said.
