On Sunday, Congress’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee approved a general overview of the law.
Committee spokesman Ebrahim Rezaei said the bill was approved during a meeting attended by the Ministry of Defense, the military, the Army and the general staff of the Islamic Revolutionary Security Force (IRGC).
The bill, sponsored by Tehran’s signature Ali Kezlian, has attracted support from 120 lawmakers, Rezaei added, the media reported.
During the session, Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister emphasized that the ministry is seeking expanded budgetary resources to meet the country’s defense requirements.
The law follows a 12-day war of aggression launched by Israel last month, during which Iranian military and civilian sites were targeted in a series of airstrikes. The attack led to martialism of over 1,000 Iranians, including senior commanders and nuclear scientists.
In response, Iran began Operation True Promise III. This is a massive counterattack that has hit key military, intelligence reporting agencies and industrial infrastructure throughout the occupying territories.
The operation included hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones, overwhelming Israeli anti-missile systems and causing major damage to Tel Aviv, Haifa and be’er sheva as a whole.
A retaliatory strike followed by an Iranian missile strike against Al Udeid, the region’s leading US air force base, after the US joined the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities.
On June 24, the Israeli government was forced to declare a unilateral halt of the aggression announced on behalf of the US president.
