On Sunday, Trump entered New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium during a surprising 3-0 victory over Chelsea’s Paris Saint-Germain and maintained his presence through the celebration of the award.
Although the crowd had already been informed of his expected presence, he attended the VIP suite next to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, appearing at Jumbotron during the US national anthem and featured at the event where he was awarded the Trophy Award.
However, this didn’t work on almost any scale of the audience or players, turning his overall presence into what critics described as an intervention that was not intervened.
The crowd responded with a sustained boo, and the Chelsea player seemed visibly shocked to receive the trophy from him.
The shocking result of the match saw PSG was struggling with an overwhelming defeat at the hands of Chelsea’s underdogs. Also, Trump was enough to call it “a little set-off.”
“(FIFA) has done great, it’s a growing sport, it’s a great sport,” he added, a very common, poor and vague explanation.
Even Chelsea star Cole Palmer appeared confused by the unexpected presence of the US president.
“Wait, wait, what is he doing?” Palmer asked Reese James Grand Shove just before the title ceremony.
“Are you planning to leave?”
Equally confused, James turned to Trump’s moment before lifting up the golden gray trophy and asked, “Are you going to leave?”
Speaking separately after the event, he said, “He was planning on leaving the stage, but he wanted to stay.”
But Trump smiled and applauded with the players until Infantino gently guided him off the stage, saving him more embarrassment.
Reactions from some social media users have made Trump’s actions much more harsh to put himself in the middle of the celebration.
The observers described the overall situation as a propaganda stunt intended to “sport-wash” many cases of rage that have been induced worldwide as a result of increasing US military adventurism and offensive policies under Trump.
They cited Washington’s growing military interventionism, the unprecedented support for the widespread fatal atrocities of the Israeli regime, and the terribly hostile trade policies for various countries as instances.
